Selenite
Basic Information
Selenite is a variety of Gypsum and is also known as Satin Spar, Icelandic spar, Utah Ice, and Gypsum Crystals. They are most often clear or white, but can also form in colors such as peach, tan, grey, and brown. It is a soft stone, just a 2 on the Mohs Scale of Hardness and can be easily scratched with a fingernail.
Metaphysical
Selenite is thought to bring clarity, shield negativity, and release negative energy. It is extremely popular in meditation spaces, gridding, and Feng Shui for these reasons. Selenite is often combined with Black Tourmaline when gridding a home, workspace, or business.
History
Selenite’s name comes from many different sources including Middle English, Latin and Greek, all relating to the moon. Selenite has natural thermal insulating properties which means all varieties feel warm to the touch. Selenite crystals up to 11 meters long have been found in caves in Mexico. Deposits in Morocco, where many home décor items are created, have seams up to 40 inches wide.
