Kunzite is the typically light pink to purple gem variety of the pyroxene mineral Spodumene that is composed of lithium, aluminum, and silicate. Kunzite is a part of the Monoclinic crystal system and has perfect cleavage. Although it was initially discovered in California, the current supply is commonly from Afghanistan. Kunzite fades from prolonged exposure to sunlight, when set into jewelry it has become known as an "evening wear" gemstone.
