Calcite is a carbonate mineral and is a soft stone, only a 3 on the Mohs Scale. It can be found in a range of colors including clear, white, yellow, blue, red, green, brown, and grey. Calcite, like most carbonates will dissolve if exposed to most types of acid. High grade optical calcite was used in WWII for gun sights for bomb sights and anti-aircraft weaponry!
