Mahogany Obsidian is a form of volcanic glass that defies the laws of physics! Obsidian is an Igneous rock that forms when magma flows from a volcanic eruption. When the rock cools rapidly, Obsidian is formed. It cools so quickly that there is no time for a crystal structure to form, making obsidian the only rock to lack a microscopic crystal structure. Obsidian is hard and brittle, and was used by Native Americans to make arrow and spear heads, skinning tools and many other valuable tools before the invention of steel.
These pieces of Mahogany Obsidian have a nice burgundy color with black inclusions, making them great example pieces. The majority of the pieces in each parcel are between 3-4cm, however some smaller pieces may exist in the parcel. While they can be a challenge to get a mirror finish, Mahogany Obsidian will cab, tumble and polish. These are also a great addition to many home décor projects.
