A Guru bead is the 109th bead on a Mala (a string of prayer beads used commonly by Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and some Sikhs) and is also known as a sumeru, bindu, or stupa. They are used to keep count while reciting, chanting, or repeating a mantra. A focal bead is a bead that can be at the center of a necklace when making jewelry.
These remarkably positive looking little Laughing Buddha beads are top-drilled and can be used as a Guru/Focal bead for your Mala, or they can take the place of your tassel at the bottom, beneath the Guru or Focal bead. They are made from an eye-catching imitation Cinnabar that has the authentic red coloring of Cinnabar without the harmful toxicity of Cinnabar.
The Buddha depicted in this bead is known as the Happy Buddha (or Ho Tai in Chinese), a revered Chinese monk that was famous for bringing Buddhist sermons and a big bag of gifts for the children that came to him to learn about Dharma.
