Cryolite is a rare mineral identified with an originally large deposit at Ivigtût in Greenland, but was depleted by 1987. Cryolite can occur as colorless, glassy, white/red to grey/black prismatic monoclinic crystals and has a Mohs hardness of 2.5 to 3. Cryolite has a very low refractive index of 1.34 , which is similar to water; if Cryolite is immersed in water than it becomes essentially invisible.

These portions of Cryolite was hand-harvested in 2015 in Greenland and predominantly show the bright white coloring you can get from this mineral, with occasional pieces showing more of the red or grey. This is an incredible sample of a historic mineral that would make you the envy of any collector!

Cryolite is believed to stimulate the Crown and Base Chakras, balancing the energy flow between them. An interesting aspect of Cryolite is that it is also thought to aid in public speaking by calming nerves before a performance.
