Hematite is the mineral form of iron(lll) oxide, and crystallizes in the rhombohedral lattice system. Hematite is opaque, and typically a steel-grey to black when in crystals and crystalline ores, and more of a dull to bright rust red in earthy, compact, fine-grain material. Hematite's name comes from a Latin phrase that means "bloodstone" because when it is found naturally, the iron content is covered in rust. When polished, Hematite takes on a mirror-like sheen.
These botryoidal Hematite specimens shows off the metallic sheen that Hematite is known for, while featuring the rust red coloring that can be found in Hematite. The botryoidal portions in the middle along the top have an incredible bubbled appearance that is emphasized by the surrounding matrix.
Hematite is thought to be a good stone for assisting in organizing your thoughts, and helping develop logical thinking skills. It is also thought to be a grounding stone because of its close connection with the earth.
