Hematite is the mineral form of iron(lll) oxide, and crystallizes in the rhombohedral lattice system. Hematite is opaque, and typically a steel-grey to black when in crystals and crystalline ores, and more of a dull to bright rust red in earthy, compact, fine-grain material. Hematite's name comes from a Latin phrase that means "bloodstone" because when it is found naturally, the iron content is covered in rust. When polished, Hematite takes on a mirror-like sheen.
This Botryoidal Hematite specimen from Morocco shows off a remarkable dark-grey sheen and natural bubbling appearance which makes this ideal for displaying as a collector piece!
Hematite is thought to be a good stone for assisting in organizing your thoughts, and helping develop logical thinking skills. It is also thought to be a grounding stone because of its close connection with the earth.
