Astrophyllite is a heavy, soft and fragile, yet very rare hydrous potassium iron titanium silicate mineral, belonging to it's own group. It is classified as or in between inosilicate and phyllosilicate. The name Astrophyllite comes from the greek words "astron" and "phyllon" for star and leaf, as per the appears of rays of light. Due to the limited availability, it is usually cut into slabs and polished, or the odd cabochon, but rarely as a decorative piece.

These 2 marvelous pieces of Astrophyllite embody the copper starburst pattern the mineral is known for. The metallic strips reflect light, giving them an almost magical feeling. The high vibration of the mineral is definitely felt when held. As this is a very soft mineral, too much handling will wear it down.
